    It’s extremely typical for expectant moms to wear their maternity clothes only once. Even if they have another pregnancy after the first, they generally shop for new clothes. So, be sure to purchase solid colors that versatile. These are outfits you will only wear a few times over a period of 9 months.

First of all, congratulations are in order for deciding on one of the most important things a woman can do in their life; have a child. While it is definitely something you will be ecstatic about, it also can be a challenging time when trying to conceive. There is no definitive plan that makes things go 100% your way at the exact time you would like it to. However, there are a few things to know that will help to increase your chances of conception faster.

Doctor’s visit
A visit to your gynecologist is going to be the first thing on your list now that you have decided to take the necessary steps towards getting pregnant. This is a great time to have a list of questions answered that might be racing through your mind and keeping you awake at night. Also, your gynecologist will be able to suggest any precautions to take that might be specific to your particular health at the time.

The best time to “try”
It’s never a bad time, right?  However, if you are trying to conceive, then there is a best time, and that is dependent on your ovulation cycle.  A woman’s ovulation period is six days long, and you are most fertile in the first 5 days of that period. Typically, the ovulation cycle is right between menstrual periods so approximately 14 days before you period is due is the best time to get pregnant.

How often to have sex
It’s typical for those wishing to get pregnant to be concerned about how often to have sex. Sometimes women (and men) are confused when they read that the more times a man ejaculates, the lower his sperm count becomes. While this is true, if he is a healthy male with a typical sperm count, then even after lots of sex, his sperm count should still be high enough for pregnancy to happen. Be aware though, if a couple is only having sex approximately once a week it will definitely lower your chances of getting pregnant.

Have fun
Although you do want to follow a few of these guidelines to help increase the chances of a pregnancy when you would prefer it to occur, you still want to enjoy yourselves. Try not to stress out about it if it does not happen within the first few weeks for you. That is normal.

Infertility is a serious problem that affects over 5 million people in the United States alone. It can be caused by a number of factors that impair the reproductive system from functioning properly.

However, many times, not being able to conceive is more of a natural “unlucky spell” combined with couples not taking the proper steps to increase the chances of conception once they have decided that they want a pregnancy.

Here’s a few facts and tips to help you increase your chances of a conception:

  • The ultimate time to have intercourse is during the woman’s ovulation period which occurs between 12 and 16 days before her next menstrual cycle begins.
  • To increase chances even further, be sure to have intercourse the night before ovulation is to begin. This way, the sperm will be ready and waiting for the egg to arrive in the fallopian tube.
  • Having intercourse in the missionary position (woman on her back with the man on top) is typically known as the best possible position for the woman’s uterus to receive the man’s sperm. In some cases this may vary, so you may want to ask your doctor if they have any suggestions on position for you.
  • Give the sperm time to swim! After intercourse, try and lie still for about 10-15 minutes so you give the sperm ample time to reach it’s destination.
  • Sperm can live and hang out in the fallopian tube for 2 or 3 days if necessary, so it’s possible to conceive on the third day after having sex.
  • Having repeated intercourse during the week of ovulation will drastically increase the chances of sperm being in the fallopian tube when the ovulation period begins.

Pregnancy has a funny way of showing up right when it’s least expected. Unplanned pregnancies can cause a lot of stress, worry, fear, and uncertainty for both mother and father. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the pregnancy is not welcomed, but rather that the parents are unprepared and not ready to take on the responsibility of caring for a child.

Realize that you can’t keep your pregnancy a secret forever. The sooner things are out in the open, the better. You may find that you get a variety of reactions, some good and some bad. Most women are aware of the fact that breastfeeding is the best option for feeding their infants, particularly in the first six months. However, some are alarmed to find that they have problems with lactation and/or engorgement, and even more report that their babies aren’t latching on properly.

To make breastfeeding go as smoothly as possible, you should follow these easy-to-implement steps!

In order for your breast to produce the right amount of milk to nourish your baby, it needs to be stimulated. You can do nipple exercises to prepare your breast for production. These exercises are very easy and usually only involve rubbing your breast and pinching the nipple. This can be done off and on throughout the day in the last stages of pregnancy.

Once your baby is born, you’ll need to make sure that he or she can latch on to the nipple properly. This can be tricky at first. It requires patience from both mother and baby. First, stimulate your baby’s rooting reflex by rubbing your nipple against his cheek gently. He will turn to you and latch on to you automatically. Your baby’s mouth should be opened wide, covering the entire areola.

To prevent engorgement, make sure that the baby nurses on each breast for at least fifteen to thirty minutes. Try to have the baby nurse each breast equally. If you find that you’re producing too much milk, you may need to relieve your breasts by squeezing milk out of them or using a breast pump. Breast engorgement can be incredibly painful and eventually lead to infections, so it’s important to avoid it at all costs.

It may be beneficial for you to find a lactation consultant who can demonstrate the proper way to breastfeed. There are lactation consultants available in most hospitals. So if you’re having trouble establishing breastfeeding, make sure you find one before you head home. While you are in the hospital, take the time to receive as much help and advice as possible – the medical professionals are there to guide you provide expertise.

Only a few decades ago, new moms going to work was something unheard of. It was assumed that the father would work and bring home the bacon, and the mother would stay home with the baby. Recently, many women are finding that staying home with their baby is very difficult, if not impossible. In our economy, most couples need two incomes to stay afloat. Besides, many women do not want to give up their careers after starting a family.

One option is to take a maternity leave for work. This will at least give the mother a few weeks to bond with her newborn before heading back to work. This crucial time is necessary for both the baby’s healthy development and for the recovery of the mother.

What are some things you need to know about maternity leave in the United States? First of all, there is no federal law guaranteeing paid maternity leave. This makes it difficult for mothers to stay at home comfortably without having to worry about bills.

The Family & Medical Leave Act is a federal law that guarantees up to twelve weeks of unpaid maternity leave. You should be able to enjoy this time off without worrying that your job may let you go. Another federal law states that it is illegal to fire, or refuse to hire a woman because she’s pregnant. It also protects against being let go due to maternity leave.

However, the FLMA only applies to businesses with more than fifty employees. You must have worked for the same company for at least one year and for at least 1250 hours. This means that if you switched jobs in the past year, or only worked part-time, you are not guaranteed maternity leave. Even if you are eligible, many people simply cannot afford to take twelve weeks off of work.

So what are your options? If you really want to stay at home with your baby, you could always consider working from home. Ask your boss if your company allows telecommuting. One of the most fundamental decisions an expectant mother has to make is to choose whether or not to breastfeed. Throughout the decades, breastfeeding has gone in and out of style. In the forties and fifties, doctors discouraged it, so many who were born in the baby boomer years were never breastfed. However, today everyone is learning of the incredible benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child.

Babies who are breastfed have been proven to be much healthier. Their immune system is stronger, they maintain a healthy weight, and they even show increases in brain power and learning capacity. Breastfeeding also allows mother and baby to enjoy a certain intimacy that helps nurture a feeling of warmth and love. Many feel that breastfeeding has a positive psychological effect on a child.

A mother’s breast milk is the perfect food for a baby, containing just the right amount of fat, sugar, vitamins, and minerals. With formula, babies can have allergic reactions to one or more of the ingredients. Although formula tries to mimic breast milk’s nutritional content as closely as possible, it still contains synthetic ingredients and chemicals that are simply not as good for your baby’s health.

Breastfeeding is also very healthy for the mother. Women who breastfeed lose their weight from the pregnancy much faster, and have a reduced chance of developing breast and ovarian cancer down the road.

So why doesn’t every woman breastfeed? Some women are simply incapable of producing enough milk to adequately nourish the baby, so their attempts at breastfeeding fail. You can calculate this by subtracting two weeks, or fourteen days, from the last day of your cycle. However, every woman’s cycle is different, so your ovulation day may not line up exactly.

By following these steps, you’ll be able to increase the likelihood of conception. However, the most important thing to remember is to just relax! So many couples get caught up in the desperate struggle to conceive that even having sex starts feeling like “work”, and it becomes a source of stress and anxiety in their lives. Many report that once they let go, relax, and stop trying so hard, pregnancy comes easily, without effort.
