morning-sickness

Many women will suffer from morning sickness in the first trimester of their pregnancy. For the unlucky ones, it may even last up to 12 weeks.  Since some women can be affected more than others with different levels of symptoms, it is difficult to suggest one miracle cure for all of morning sickness. However, there are many tips that you can keep in a list at the side of your bed in case are one of the ones that are hit hard by it and need some relief.

  • Blood sugar level
There is a theory that your morning sickness occurs when you wake up because that is the time when your blood sugar level is at it’s lowest.
It might be a good idea to eat a high protein snack right before bed and then grab a little bite of something each time you wake to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It just might be enough to make a difference!
You might also want to try eating something light before even getting out of bed and then getting out of bed slowly.
  • Is water making things worse?
Some women complain that drinking water actually makes things worse when suffering from morning sickness. It’s extremely important to stay well-hydrated during pregnancy, but there are a couple alternatives that might do the trick:
Try to have fruit smoothies made with crushed ice.  You can also try carbonated water that has small amounts of fruit flavoring. Some women have even claimed that drinking ICE COLD water with lemon makes a difference. Then, there’s always tea, but drink decaf.  It doesn’t hurt to try them all, and all the while, you’re staying hydrated.
  • Smelly situations
Your nose is on high alert in the early stages of pregnancy. All smells, including the bad ones, are unfortunately heightened to an alarming degree. Avoiding nasty smells that are causing nausea is sometimes all that’s needed to stop that regular morning sickness. Sometimes just the kitchen trash, or even morning breath can be enough to trigger it.

How Much Weight Gain Is Normal?

pregnant weight gain

Once you are pregnant, if you’re not already, it’s natural to wonder how much weight you will gain and how hard it will be to get it off. It helps to have an understanding of what normal weight gain means, where it comes from, and why it happens.  It’s best to discuss your own healthy weight gain with your obstetrician or gynecologist, but here is a few general guidelines to give you an idea of the basics.

The range for healthy weight gain is usually somewhere between 15 and 40 pounds depending on your weight at the beginning of your pregnancy. If you’re under the average healthy weight for someone your size, then it would be normal to expect a healthy gain of 25-40 pounds during pregnancy. If you begin your pregnancy overweight, then your doctor may suggest that you try and keep the weight gain down to between 15 and 25 pounds. Keep in min that 6-8 pounds of that is the baby and much of the rest will be amniotic fluid. That being said, you can expect to lose up to 15 pounds with the birth of your baby.

Although you want to limit your weight gain during pregnancy, this is definitely not the time to go on a diet.  However, you also don’t want to fall into the trap of thinking that you need to eat for two.  Whatever you choose to eat, be sure that your getting the necessary amounts of vitamins, minerals and nutrients on a daily basis. It’s extremely important to know that a diet during pregnancy is referred to as what you’re eating and meant to limit weight gain, not to lose weight.

Don’t forget about exercise. Regular activities is great for the baby, even if a workout is a part of your natural routine already. If you are doing strenuous activities and workouts though, it’s best to get your doctor’s advice on what you should and shouldn’t do at different stages of your pregnancy.

pregnancy-complications

Most people don’t realize how common complications during pregnancy is until they decide to get pregnant themselves and start looking into it. Early pregnancy complications can arise (with no fault to anyone) in any woman even if she is perfectly health, and has had perfectly healthy children in the past.

Here are some complications that are common as well as few things to look out for during pregnancy:

Early pregnancy complications that can arise
Once you are pregnant, the first thing you’re going to do is see your obstetrician/gynecologist. You will have an ultrasound done to ensure the pregnancy is advancing as it should and then also have repeated visits to make sure everything is going smoothly.

Two of the most common pregnancy complications early on are:

  • Ectopic pregnancy
One of the most common complications in pregnancies early on is when the egg is fertilized outside of the womb and begins to develop i the ovary or the fallopian tube. This puts both the fetus and the mother in danger and usually will require surgery. Otherwise, those tubes could burst, creating internal bleeding and sometimes even death.
  • Miscarriage
There are several complications that can happen in early pregnancy that can cause heavy bleeding and/or result in the baby’s death. These can range from blood clotting, structural problems, infection, or other complications. Sometimes lifestyle choices can have a negative effect on the pregnancy as well such as smoking, alcohol, caffeine, etc.

Higher risks
Although early complications in pregnancy  can happen to anyone,  some women will be at higher risk. Women who are over thirty years old have a higher risk of bearing a child with brith defects compared to those who are under thirty. If you are over thirty five, then you also have an increased risk of high blood pressure, diabetes and other issues. However, today’s technology allows doctors to detect early signs for most of these complications and usually can be treated.

Ultimately, it is good to be aware of these things and consult your doctor on a regular basis durig pregnancy, but not to let it stress you out. Talking with your doctors regularly can usually help ease some of the anxiety or stress you may be feeling, but will also help to ensure that everything is going as planned if you stay up to date with regular appointments and check ups.

Morning sickness is one of the first tell-tale signs of pregnancy. It can occur as early as two weeks after conception and is usually one of the first symptoms that clues women in the thought that they might be pregnant. The name is slightly misleading though, as morning sickness can occur at any time during the day. It is common for many women to feel ill at night, in the middle of the afternoon, or before/after meals, on a reoccuring basis throughout their first trimester.

Most pregnant women experience morning sickness, although the degree to which it is felt differs from person to person. There are the lucky few that report no morning sickness at all, and the unlucky who experience morning sickness throughout their entire pregnancy. For most, however, morning sickness generally lasts between two to six weeks during the first trimester.

Morning sickness can range from mild to overwhelming. Vomiting often occurs, which causes many women in their first trimester to actually lose, rather than gain, weight. Doctors generally agree that morning sickness is caused by altered hormone levels caused by the pregnancy. This combined with a heightened sense of smell and taste can cause many women to experience nausea in reaction to certain foods and aromas. However, once these hormone levels even out during the second trimester, the symptoms usually go away.

Preventing morning sickness is not easy, as it is a naturally occurring part of pregnancy. But its effect can be lessened by keeping well hydrated and getting adequate rest. It’s important to prevent an empty stomach by frequently snacking on mild, filling foods such as saltine crackers. An empty stomach can leave you even more vulnerable to nausea and vomiting.

Some common cures for morning sickness include cayenne pepper and organic apple cider vinegar. It sounds strange, but both of these substances can help to quell an uneasy stomach. If you feel like you can’t keep anything down, drinking ginger ale and eating soup made from chicken broth are usually effective.

As you suffer through morning sickness, just keep in mind that these symptoms are only temporary. Once your baby is born, you will be so consumed with joy that you will forget about these unpleasant pregnancy side effects.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important no matter what your stage of life. But it becomes absolutely essential during pregnancy. When you’re pregnant, you have more to look out for than just yourself. There are many things you must understand about the importance of making healthy choices during these next nine months.

Ensuring that you get regular prenatal care is a cornerstone of a healthy pregnancy. As soon as you find out that you are pregnant, you should schedule an appointment with your doctor. Afterward, assuming that you are healthy without any risk factors, you should continue to get check-ups every month up until the third trimester, when you may want to increase visits to once every two weeks. When it comes to high risk pregnancies, some women must visit their doctors once or twice per week.

Next in line of importance is nutrition and eating habits. Only your health care provider can specify exactly what your caloric intake should be, but generally you’ll need to consume an extra two to three hundred calories per day. These calories should be healthy, as well. Just because you are “eating for two” doesn’t mean that you have an excuse to eat junk food filled with sugar and high in fat. Keep your diet moderate, and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Always remember to stay away from risky food and drink such as alcohol, sushi, and deli meats.

The more vitamins and minerals you consume, the better you will feel, and the more smoothly your pregnancy will progress. You may also find it beneficial to take supplements such as iron, which many pregnant women lack, and folic acid, which prevents birth defects. Do not rely entirely on supplements, though. Vitamins and minerals are most effective when they come directly from the food you consume. Make sure that you do not overcook vegetables, as the vitamins and minerals contained in the food will diminish.

Other key steps to a healthy pregnancy include staying well hydrated and exercising regularly. Working out will make your body feel better and will prepare you for childbirth. It will also increase your blood flow and prevent you from gaining too much unnecessary weight during pregnancy.

Pregnancy is not always a pleasant experience, but if you follow these general guidelines, you will maximize the chances of having a healthy baby, and minimize pain and discomfort.

Many pregnant women are disturbed and embarrassed when their favorite clothes no longer fit them properly. Usually, the point at which you must abandon your regular clothes occurs somewhere towards the middle or end of your second trimester. By this time, you have gained enough weight, especially in the belly, that your favorite shirts and your sexy “skinny jeans” no longer fit.

If this is happening to you, then it’s time to hit the maternity department! The idea of wearing maternity clothes may not sound ideal to most women, but it is actually possible to choose from a variety of cute and stylish clothes. Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you have to wear a mumu! Nor does it mean that you have to resign yourself to frumpy, unfashionable clothes. Maternity wear has definitely improved in recent years, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding clothes that are just as cute as your regular skinny wardrobe.

One of the most important things to remember as you search for maternity clothes is that you want to wear something that will make you look slimmer. Dark colored clothes, black especially, have a slimming effect on the body. Pair this with some cute jeans and you’ll look fabulous. For pants, make sure that you choose something with an expanding waistband, for obvious reasons.

However, there are many options to choose from besides black. Some women like to accentuate their pregnancy rather than hide it. Indeed, just about any color, pattern, and style you could think of is available for purchase at most major department stores. Most of them sell for a reasonable price. You should definitely take the time to buy clothes which make you feel good and confident about yourself. These days, there are no shortage of maternity clothes designed to make a woman feel sexy and fashionable.

Pregnancy can be a trying period when it comes to a woman’s self esteem, so any measures you can take to improve your confidence is a step in the right direction. Having a better outlook and attitude about yourself will lead to a healthier, more manageable pregnancy overall. It will be better for the baby as well.

Is your pregnancy making you sore and stiff? Pregnancy causes a lot of disproportionate weight gain in the abdomen, which can put pressure on your back, legs, and feet. Sometimes the level of discomfort can be simply unbearable, to the point where it’s impossible to get adequate sleep. So what can you do to treat and prevent this debilitating pain?

One option you may consider is using pregnancy pillows! They are specially made and designed to provide comfort and relief for pregnant women. They can add support to various places on your body, including your lower back and between your knees.

Generally, as you progress in your pregnancy, and especially throughout the third trimester, you will find that sleeping on your back feels incredibly uncomfortable. This is because the weight of the baby combined with gravity makes you feel as though you are being crushed.

This is also dangerous, as the extra weight can actually cut off blood flow through the vena cava, one of the most important blood vessels.

Because of this, sleeping on your side is usually the best option. Placing a pregnancy pillow on your side can give you something to lean on, and will prevent you from rolling on to your back and potentially causing harm to your body. It will also make you feel much more comfortable and relaxed. Placing another in between your knees will relieve pressure from your hips.

The two pregnancy pillows together, one between the knees and one behind the back, will allow for maximum comfort, safety, and range of motion. You’ll finally be able to get the sleep that both you and your baby so desperately need to stay healthy.

Other ways in which you can use pregnancy pillows: On your lap while driving, and behind your back while sitting for long periods of time. You can use them in pretty much any position you like whenever you’re feeling stiff. The possibilities are endless! While it may seem unusual using a pillow throughout the day while you’re in various positions, for many pregnant women it becomes a necessity.

Figuring out the right name for your baby can be a difficult task. You and your partner may have differing tastes when it comes to names. Your family members and in-laws may get on your case about choosing one particular name over another. As if preparing for a new baby isn’t stressful enough! Here are some general tips to follow when it comes to selecting your baby’s name.

Only select names that sound good with your surname. Don’t look at the first name alone. It needs to have an attractive cadence when combined with a middle and last name. Generally, you want to avoid having a first and last name start with the same letter. While alliteration may be good for literature, it sounds silly as a person’s name. It may even end up being a tongue twister.

Don’t choose a name that’s easy to make fun of or to twist into a degrading nickname. School kids can be very cruel, so you want to do everything you possibly can to avoid any ridicule for your child.

You may want to think about the meaning behind your child’s potential name. Some parents like to ensure that their child’s name has a deep meaning. Others don’t really care. There are many resources on the internet, as well as many books available at the library that explain thousands of name meanings. You may be surprised to learn that common names often have very unique meanings. This may influence your decision.

If you and your partner cannot agree on names, take the time to each make out a list of preferred names. Go over the lists mutually, discussing the pros and cons of each. Chances are there will be at least one or two names that both of you like. Don’t insist on one particular name if your partner hates it. Choosing your child’s name should be a decision the two of you make together.

Don’t let your family members get in the way and insist on a name. Sometimes families want to continue the legacy of a particular name in the family. However, this is your baby, not theirs. Politely listen to their advice and suggestions, but let them know that ultimately the decision remains up to you, the parents. If necessary, you could always compromise and use their desired name as a middle name.
